“Forget this, I’m switching my major to philosophy so we can just talk about all this stuff directly,” he said in a huff. I don’t remember his name, probably something like Tyler. And then he walked off.
At the time, about 14 years ago, it didn’t register what was happening. But now I know that what I was seeing was someone’s purpose in life coming out.
Because you don’t major in philosophy if you want to make a living because philosophy is the ultimate truth, the right thing to major in. You major in philosophy because that’s your unique purpose in life — “philosophy is the ultimate truth” is how you see the world.
It’s the same with choosing a writing niche.
You don’t niche in tech because everyone says there’s money there.
You niche because whenever you click-through, it happens to be about a new tech product.
Because whenever you lose track of time reading, or feel emotionally tied to the outcome of a news article, it’s about a tech business.
Not because it’s the best, right, true niche… but because it’s how you see the world, once you start looking around.
